From American Express to Filmmaking. £ 335.

When I first saw this American Express commercial on the ingenious Goldenfiddle, I thought Anderson (?) why is he still working? The existence of Alien Vs. Predator (2004) alone should have sent him all the way back behind the counter of a video rental store but no, now he is even working on a sequel! After actually seeing the commercial I realised it is the OTHER Anderson. No, not the Magnolia - Anderson, the other one.
It is so confusing and, therefore, the film history lesson of the day is:

  • Paul Thomas Anderson - The good one. Responsible for getting me interested in Mark Wahlberg's penis, frogs falling from the sky and getting Adam Sandler to act seriously. Boogie Nights (1997), Magnolia (1999), Punch Drunk Love (2002).
  • Paul W.S. Anderson - We should be suspicious of every person who needs two middle initials to distinguish himself from other people. Event Horizon (1997), Resident Evil (2002), AVP: Alien Vs. Predator (2004).
  • Wes Anderson - The awkward one - in a good way. Rushmore (1998), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) + above mentioned commercial.

PS. Everyone who can point out (at least) three references made in the title of this post gets a respectful nod :)
